School of Public Health Marks KNUST@75 with Thrilling Inter-Departmental Academic Contest

 

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology School of Public Health has successfully organized an Inter-Departmental Quiz Competition as part of activities marking the University’s 75th Anniversary celebrations. The event, held on May 25, 2026, at the Physiology Auditorium, brought together students, faculty, and supporters in a spirited display of academic excellence and teamwork.

The competition featured six departments within the School of Public Health, with participants demonstrating impressive knowledge in public health concepts, policy, epidemiology, reproductive health, and environmental safety. The event formed part of the School’s contribution to the University-wide anniversary celebrations aimed at promoting intellectual engagement and strengthening collaboration among departments.

After several competitive rounds, the Department of Health Policy Management & Economics emerged as the overall winner, showcasing exceptional analytical skills and teamwork throughout the contest. The Department of Epidemiology & Biostatistics secured second place, while the Department of Population, Family and Reproductive Health placed third.

The participating departments included Global Health and Non-Communicable Diseases; Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety; Health Promotion and Disability Studies; Epidemiology and Biostatistics; Population and Family Reproductive Health; and Health Policy Management and Economics.

Representing the various departments were Isaac Kwame Yeboah and Meredith Ivanova Achiaa from Global Health and Non-Communicable Diseases; Priscilla Sarfowaa and Emmanuella Appiah-Ofori from Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety; Annabel Nana Aba Yankah and Nana Twumwaah Pamago-Anane from Health Promotion and Disability Studies; Enimpah Dominic Jerome and Princess Sedinam Akorlie from Epidemiology and Biostatistics; Amina Sanni Adamu and Abigail Mensah from Population and Family Reproductive Health; and Priscilla Konadu Sakyi, together with Thomas Owusu from Health Policy Management and Economics.

Speaking at the event, the Dean, Prof. Peter Agyei Baffour, commended the enthusiasm and dedication displayed by all participating students and emphasized the importance of academic competitions in nurturing critical thinking, collaboration, and professional development among future public health practitioners.

The quiz competition also served as a platform to foster unity and healthy interaction among students across the School while highlighting the role of public health education in addressing contemporary health challenges in Ghana and beyond.

The event concluded with applause and celebrations as winning teams received recognition for their outstanding performances, reinforcing the School of Public Health’s commitment to academic excellence and student engagement during the KNUST 75th Anniversary celebrations.
