On Wednesday, 20th May 2025, the leadership of the School of Public Health Alumni Association, KNUST, led by its newly elected president, Mr. Kwame Sarkodie Sarfo, paid a courtesy call on the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Professor Christian Agyare. The visit was to formally introduce the new alumni executives and to discuss plans in support of the School's ongoing development efforts.
Led by the Dean of the School of Public Health, Professor Peter Agyei-Baffour, the alumni leadership shared their commitment to a major project recently entrusted to them — raising Ten Million Ghana Cedis (GHS 10,000,000) to contribute towards the expansion and enhancement of infrastructure for the School. While this amount has been designated as the alumni’s target contribution, it represents only part of the broader resource mobilization efforts needed by the School and College to support academic excellence and improve facilities for teaching and learning.

Mr. Kwame Sarkodie Sarfo, president of the Alumni Association, expressed the Association’s readiness to collaborate with current students and institutional stakeholders in the fundraising drive. As part of their strategy, they intend to engage representatives of both regular and weekend students as channels for outreach, helping to build partnerships and expand support networks across various sectors.
Professor Christian Agyare warmly welcomed the team and praised their dedication and strategic focus. He encouraged their initiative, offering guidance on how to approach the campaign and assuring them of the College’s full backing in this collective effort to advance public health education at KNUST.
The School of Public Health (KNUST-SPH), established in 2014, has its roots in the Department of Community Health of the School of Medical Sciences. The first public health program — the MSc in Health Services Planning and Management — was launched in 1997. Today, KNUST-SPH stands as a leader in public health graduate training, committed to producing thought leaders through quality teaching, entrepreneurship development, cutting-edge research, and impactful community engagement.

With a vision to become the most competitive center of excellence and preferred destination for public health training, research, and community service in Africa and beyond, the School continues to make critical contributions to improving public health outcomes locally and globally.
The Provost expressed optimism about the alumni’s involvement and reaffirmed the importance of strong partnerships between alumni and the institution in achieving shared goals. He pledged his full support to the team as they work to achieve their ambitious objectives.
